These pictures were taken on a short trip to Bantry, in county Cork, where I ventured around, looking out for B&W motifes. Here you can see a few of them.
Bantry is a charming coastal town located in the southwestern part of County Cork, Ireland. Nestled on the edge of Bantry Bay, one of Europe’s deepest natural harbours, it offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and is surrounded by rugged hills and lush greenery. The town is an important gateway to the Beara Peninsula, known for its dramatic landscapes and scenic drives.
Historically, Bantry has been a site of strategic importance. It was famously linked to the attempted French invasion of Ireland in 1796, commemorated today with the Wolfe Tone Square monument and an anchor from a French ship. Bantry House, an elegant Georgian mansion overlooking the bay, is one of its main attractions. The house, still privately owned, features beautiful gardens and a fascinating collection of art and artefacts.
Bantry thrives on tourism, fishing, and agriculture, with a lively cultural scene. The town hosts events like the West Cork Chamber Music Festival and the Bantry Literary Festival, drawing visitors from around the world. Its vibrant weekly market showcases local crafts, foods, and produce.
With its rich history, scenic beauty, and welcoming atmosphere, Bantry is a gem in Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way.
